MOPED LADS

The Moped Lads belong to the oldest punkbands in Switzerland and enjoy an excellent cult state there. They are an original part of the Lucerne music scene. 1992 the band got together and recruited themselves out of members of classic Swiss punkbands like Crazy, Take A Virgin or helvetic 60’s garage punkbands like Flying Shrimps and Reaction.

Frustrated of the at that time almost non existent musical punk scene and with disgust for the overproduced moanmetalgrungerock publications they decided to cultivate with the Moped Lads the attitude of the first punk bands, which they hold themselves because they where there at that time. They took the name for one part from Peter & The Test Tube Babies and from Johnny Moped, in which tradition they feel and on the other part it is the common past of the members: driving mopeds and being a yobbo. To emphasize their common ground and to show, that they are spiritual descendants of Johnny Moped, they use the band name as their family name, like the Ramones.

In the course of the years they released the cd’s “Chinese Breakdown”, “Kicked Out Of 77”, “Moped Lads”, “Bollocks On The Rocks” and finally the first vinyl: “Dead People Smell Louder “ (soon to be released also on cd).

Through the years they played countless intense concerts in sometimes extraordinary dresses and make ups from the north of Germany to Italy and crossed the way of bands like UK Subs, Peter & The Test Tube Babies, Business, Dee Dee Ramone, Terrorgruppe, Lars Frederiksen & The Bastards, 999, Lurkers, Dropkick Murphys and many more.

The Moped Lads not only play punkrock together, no, they live their punk thing, for example, they still promote a lot Punk and Hardcoreshows, especially at the Sedel or Schüür in Lucerne. The former prison and now musical center with lots of rehearsal rooms is almost not thinkable out of the work of the Moped Lads.

Drummer Sammy Moped made himself a name in the local art scene with his very individual, colourful paintings and sculptures. Sony Moped illustrates not only all the posters for their promoted shows meanwhile he made himself a name with a lot of Rock’n’Roll Posters in Switzerland.
